Bad Day

That was yesterday in a nutshell. It sucked, big time. I didn't think I was going to make it, and I came *this* close to bursting into tears about half a dozen times.

The night before I didn't get into bed until 11 pm. Which kinda sucked, but I could deal. But then a little after midnight Kylie wakes up crying. I wait a few minutes, hoping, pleading, silently begging her to go back to sleep on her own. That's a big negative. So I stumble out of bed, trip over a couple of chihuahuas (yeah, there are still 12 of them in my house, don't even want to think about it), and scoop Ky up. A wet, stinky Ky.

I then realize the wetness is not from pee, but from poop. Poop that has exploded from the nighttime diaper and soaked through her jammies. A diaper change is definitely needed ASAP. I flip on the light which causes Rex to grumble and pull the blanket over his head, and proceed to strip down Kylie. In the middle of taking off the dirty diaper she reaches down, grabs a handful of poop and proceeds to smash it into her face and hair. Because she's mad and has been screaming the whole time, and what better way to show mama that you're mad then to smear poop all over your body?

So I quickly rinse her off, hoping that she is poop-free now, and get her into some clean pjs and diaper. Ky is wide awake by now, and is fussing and fretting and basically letting me know how horrible her life is. I know that the moment I put her in the crib she will scream bloody murder so I bring her to bed with Rex and me and let her nurse and pray that she passes out quickly. Nope. She and I finally drifted off a little after 2 am. And then my alarm goes of at 2:30. Fudge. I careful get up, trying not to disturb the sleeping baby on my chest, gently set her in her crib, and breathe a sigh of relief when she doesn't wake up.

And then the day just kept getting crappier. And crappier. And crappier. But I got through it. And it ended on a good note too at least. Calzones, shower, and cuddling with Rex. I love that man. Today's been going well and I hope it keeps it up. And then starting on Sunday I have a three day weekend!!! I haven't had 3 days of in a row (hell, even 2 days off in a row!) in a long time and I plan on enjoying my mini vacay from work! Happy Memorial Day weekend y'all!!!!

Today

Kylie and I took Jack in the Box to Rex's work since he forgot his lunch at home this morning.  And since we were already out and about, I decided to do some shopping.  Which was exactly what Ky and I needed apparently.

First we stopped by Babies R Us where I found the plain white Gerber t-shirts in Kylie's size that I have been looking for forever, and then I found a pair of footed pj's in Kylie's size too.  That made me incredibly happy because her legs are way too long for her 9 month jammies.  She also got a Tommee Tippee sippy cup and a bare bones umbrella stroller for when we don't want to lug around a humongous stroller.

I promptly put the stroller to use at our next stop, the mall.  We both got books at Barnes and Noble.  We went searching for something for Rex and found an orange Nixon wallet WITH a change compartment which he always has to have (doesn't that sound like such a girl thing? ha ha).  Then we strolled along to Forever 21 where I spent the remainder of my Mother's Day gift card from Rex and Ky on a cute button up plaid shirt.

Our final stop was at Target to get snack puffs for Ky.  And of course I couldn't just buy puffs from my fave store, so I also bought a little sun hat for Ky when we take her swimming this summer and a funny card to go along with Rex's wallet.  But they were out of Summer Wheat, which is this super great beer that tastes like Fruity Pebbles.  Seriously.  ::pout::

Now we're home and both of us are going to hopefully take a nap.  I work overnight at the store tonight for a dog food reset, and I need all the rest I can get.  Happy Friday y'all and have a super weekend!!!

Kylie has a Fluffy Butt

Yep, the bug is in cloth diapers full time now.  And I LOVE it.  I can't describe my feelings for it.  Frigging awesome.  I had received about 10 cloth diapers for Christmas (I even asked for them too! Does that make me weird that I was over the moon to receive diapers for Christmas?).  Then when we received our tax return I used a portion of that to buy 14 more diapers, 2 pail liners, 3 wet bags, and some diaper friendly detergent.  Let me tell you, I haven't looked back.  This is my stash.

Go Green Diapers:  By far the cheapest diaper I have found so far, they range from $8 to $11 and that includes their prints and fuzzy diapers as well.  They have an awesome selection of colors and prints, and have snap closures.  They fit Kylie really well, and she's a tall, skinny baby.  They're one of my go to diapers for day time.  I do not use them at night, however, because they cannot withstand the insane amounts of pee that Kylie puts out at that time.

Bum Genius 4.0:  These are wonderful.  A bit pricey, but well worth the money.  I have about 6 of these with the aplix closures, and they are the favorites of the sitter's for their ease of use.  They also fit Kylie really well, and are able to handle daytime or night time use.  I wish they would get brighter colors though, I'm not a huge pastel fan.

Oh Katy:  I absolutely ADORE these diapers.  They have the best fit on Kylie.  I have the snap closure and I can always get perfect adjustments with them.  They are my favorite night time diaper and I don't think that I have ever had a leak with them.  Plus the inside is super soft and I feel good about putting this diaper on Ky's bum.  The only complaint I have about these is that they only have 2 snaps to adjust the rise and so sometimes they come unsnapped, but it only happens occasionally.

Rumparooz:  At first I wasn't sure how I would like these, but they are starting to grow on me know that I've had some time to play around with the fit and inserts.  They are a great day time diaper for Kylie and I love how they fit, not very bulky on her little butt at all.  The internal gussets keep poop contained, which is always a good thing.  I love their huge selection of colors and prints, and I just want to keep buying them for that reason.

That's the diapers I have so far.  I'd like to get a couple more Oh Katy and try some new diapers as well.  I have my eyes on some Tot Wraps and itti bittis.

With the inserts I have the standard microfiber ones that come with the diapers and I also got six hemp inserts from Rumparooz.  I have to say that I love the hemp inserts.  They are super thin and super duper absorbent.  Kylie is a heavy wetter and I hate having her diaper stuffed to capacity all the time, but the hemp saved me from that during the day.  I did find that I needed to wash them about 10 times for their full absorbency to kick in.

I'm using Rockin' Green detergent with them in Hard Rock, and it works wonders.  I haven't any stains using it and it works well with odors too.  I usually put my diapers through a cold rinse with no detergent, and then a heavy hot wash with extra rinse at the end.  I use 2 tablespoons of detergent per wash.  About once a month I let the diapers soak in the detergent over night (especially her night time diapers) to help prevent ammonia buildup.  This is all with a front loader, which I'm not too fond of because it doesn't put a lot of water out to really soak them.  I can't wait for when we move and I can use my top loader again.

So there you have it, my journey with cloth diapers so far.  I've learned a lot, but I know there is still a lot more to go!!!

9 Months!!!!

That's right.  Nine months.  Nine whole months.  I think I might pass out because there is no way my little bug can be nine months old already.  But as I look through all of her pictures, I have to admit to myself that it's true.  Time does really fly by with a baby.

Kylie definitely is her own little person now.  She will reach for you when she wants you (which just about melts my heart into a big ol' puddle every time) and now waves hello to people by reaching one arm out as far as she can.

She is fully mobile now.  Crawls around like there is no tomorrow.  Currently, she is doing laps around the living room.  She can get up to a sitting position from her belly or her back, and can pull herself up to standing by holding on to something.  Ky is even trying to stand now without holding onto anything as well.

Kylie babbles up a storm still.  She is adding more and more sounds to her repertoire, and loves hearing her own voice.  She can say mama, dada, no, and hey right now.  Ky loves singing along to the radio or one of our ipods.  Her favorites are classic rock and punk right now.

As of yesterday Kylie is 17 pounds 3 ounces (25th percentile), 27 1/2 inches tall (50th percentile), and her head is 17 inches around (75th percentile).  My long skinny baby :)

She is still breastfeeding and eating formula.  She is eating more and more solids and loves texture and foods she can feed herself.  Kylie loves eating any kind of Mexican food, eggs, fruits, veggies, beans, and rice.  She's not a big fan of meat.  Ky loves any kind of food that she can feed herself, like puffs, bread, and tortillas.  We are trying to get her to drink out of sippy cups but she is still loyal to her bottles.

We are full time cloth diapering Ky now.  I uses a part of our tax return money to buy 14 more cloth diapers, 3 wet bags, and 2 pail liners.  We have already saved so much money from not having to buy disposables.  Even Rex has jumped on the bandwagon and uses them no problem (he even likes the ones with snaps better than the Velcro!)  I'll try to have a post up soon about our journey into the world of cloth diapering.

Ky has her two front bottom teeth right now.  They look so cute, but they are definitely sharp!  She went through one week of biting everything in sight but luckily got over that quickly.

She is wearing clothes that are anywhere from 6 to 12 months now.  I keep waiting for the weather to warm up so she can wear all of her cute summer clothes that her grandparents keep giving her!

Ky Bug is still sleeping through the night.  She will usually go down at 8 pm and always wakes up exactly at 7 every morning.  Her naps are not as normal.  On a good day she will take a one hour nap at 10 am and 2 pm, on other days she will take one 2 hour nap in the afternoon.

All and all, Kylie is a wonderful baby.  Rex and I are spoiled by her, and couldn't have been more blessed with a better baby.  She's our whole world and we wouldn't know what to do without her anymore.
